When most people finally act on their dreams to become a book writer they aren’t in the enviable position of being able to spend all day thinking, testing and writing.  The reality is that they are most likely busy poeople with heavy responsibility and find it very challenging finding a few spare minutes in their day.

So, does this mean you have to give up on your dreams of writing a book?

Here are some writing tips that will help you get the maximum productivity out of the time you have:

1. Have a clear image of where you want to take your reader by the end of your book or information product.  If you can envision how you will help or entertain your reader, then you have most of the battle won.  Being a book writer in the non-fiction space depends more on communicating disired information than it does being a perfect writer.

2. Work back through the steps that will take your reader to that end result.  To accomplish anything in life (lose weight, get a date, start a business, buy a pet…) people need to follow a blueprint to get it done efficiently.  It’s up to you in your book to provide that blueprint.

3. Outline in questions.  Once you have your "steps" outlined in terms of chapters for your book, now develop a series of questions that your marketplace has about accomplishing those steps.  They could be from your own experience, researching your marketplace or studying other books and magazines. 

4. Tackle 2-3 of those questions each time you sit down.  Some you will be able to answer and write about off the top of your head based on experience, others will take you a little longer because they require research, either way you are being 100% productive. 

5. Don’t edit until you have a finished first draft.  I’ll admit it’s pretty tempting to edit your work on the fly, but that just slows you down by interrupting the natural flow of creativity and thought coming from your brain.  Your brain is a powerful ally when you are writing a book…let it do its job without interruption.
