At least once a day I tell either my 5 or 7-year old that “stupid” is a bad word, but I just couldn’t keep from using it after reading a recent piece from Gawker on mistakes to avoid when agents (or writers for that matter) submit their manuscript to publishers.
Reading “…Other Hot Tips For Agents” immediately reminded me how often we overlook details when submitting items for review – talk to any publisher and they will tell you that it still happens quite regularly that submissions come in full of poor formatting, missing information, weak spots in the submission, etc…
If you are self-publishing, obviously this is not an issue. However, many infoproduct marketers, at some point in their business building, do see an advantage to getting published – mainly for branding, publicity and wider reach within the offline side of the market.
According to this, and many other publisher comments I’ve read and heard, you can increase your chances of a successful publishing result by paying attention to detail – or making sure your agent is paying attention to detail – when submitting manuscripts or proposals to editors.
