So you have written your own ebook and now you want to make sure that people don’t steal it, rip it off or begin to outright sell it as if it was their own.
In other words, how do you ensure stipulation and enforcement of your own copyright for the material you have put so much time into developing?
4 Ebook Protection and Copyright Tips
From our own experience publishing and marketing dozens of our own ebooks (see the systems we use over at Infomarketer’sZone ) – here are some methods we have used to control piracy of our material:
1. Make sure your downlooad is secure with a password, seems logical, but many people we work with have their download available from a wide open page. You can do this by simply securing the directory in which you place your ebook and sending that password out in an email from your shoppingcart upon successful order or you can go with a secure, one-time download script such as DL Guard to help you protect your download links.
2. Second, I always place a statement in bold, large font on the second page (following cover) that states this material is Copyright, not for re-publish or resell by anyone without express consent of …. Some of the pirated material I have found people use of mine has been an accident – people thought it was PLR or Resell Rights when it was not – having the statement makes it clear and prevents this unintiential “stealing”
3. Every once in a while search for your title and a sentence of your material just to make sure nobody else is blatently selling your ebook or that they haven’t published your material online without permission
4. Copyright law is such that your original work is copyright as soon as it is created, the challenge you will have should you ever have to prove your copyright in court is to demonstrate YOUR version of the material came first. A common way to do that is to print a copy and send it to the copyright office to have it on file OR print a copy and send it to yourself in the mail so you have the post stamp to help support your notion of when the material was created.
Otherwise, you can’t do much. Honestly – we have not found that piracy is a significant problem…it does happen, but not a massive issue. Take some of these basic actions and then get on with writing your ebooks and marketing them aggressively online.
