So often it takes a major event in our lives to interrupt our daily “live busy” routine and force us to look inward sometimes resulting in positive energy and renewal in our lives.

For many, this is how they finally reach the point in their lives where they decide to make a major career change, start a business, travel around the world or write a book.

I know in our case, we had been developing training programs for corporations until our second born child came along.  Taking some time off to be with our newborn (attempting to help my wife with the daily functions but really kidding myself…I still thank her for humoring me in this regard all these years after), I found myself with 1-2 hours each day to escape to the local coffee shop and write.

Within 5-weeks I had my first ebook and from there we continue to publish our own infoproducts (how-to ebooks, books, courses and the like…).  The process for how we have grown this business is documented in detail over at the Ultimate Information Entrepreneur’s Success Package…

CHALLENGES = OPPORTUNITIES

Since then, I have coached many book and ebook writers to build their businesses – expanding beyond their first book idea into a full-blow online business with multiple streams of income leveraging their book idea and I’ve noticed that very often the challenges we face in life make the best opportunities for book topics.

Why?

  1. We have first hand experience, our research is largely done…we can speak personally on the topic and that comes across to our readers loud and clear
  2. We know there is demand for the topic…the challenges we face in life (health, relationships, parenting, job, financial, etc…) are typically shared by many others.  By experiencing a challenge we are in fact doing the best kind of market research
  3. Help yourself and write your book at the same time…we have done this many times where we want to research a topic further to help someone around us, we can then put that into a book and help hundreds of thousands or millions of others AND create a very lucrative, leveraged income stream
  4. Marketing insights…everyone who has written or tried to sell books knows that marketing is 90% of the battle in getting your book in front of and purchased by your market.  Having direct experience with your topic can help you to share your experiences in a convincing, truthful and persuasive manner resulting in far greater marketing success than someone who has to “guess” at the proper messaging

Case in point, here is a great story about a Bay area women who suffered a painful end to a relationship and sought out methods such as Yoga and meditation as ways to help renew her life, turn challenge into growth and come out better on the other side.

The more she experienced the challenging journey the more she realized that others would benefit from what she was going through and the birth of “Omstruck, Healing Heartbreak Through Yoga and Meditation” was well on its way.

We all go through challenges – small challenges each day, bigger challenges at key points in our life.

From the point of view of a non-fiction, information product create (ebook writer, book author, course developers, etc…) challenges offer some of the best opportunities to create powerful, in-demand products that we can sell online for years to come.

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN…

What challenges can you think of that you may be able to share to help others who will most certainly got through the same experience?  If you can think of one, leave us a comment and let us know what it is.
