One of the most common questions we get from people that work through our Free Ebook Writing Course is “Should I write a book or ebook about my life?”
Here are the ebook planning and writing tips I give them…
- Remember, it’s abou them -  nobody wants to read about your life UNLESS there is something in it that will help them achieve a goal or overcome a problem they have right now. While it is great to look at your own life for signs of interesting experiences, overcoming challenges and exciting moments, be sure to relate that back to how you can help others in similar situations
- Focus, point and angle…Rather than writing a rambling story or biography, focus your first book on one aspect of your life where you have a point to the information organizing it around helping your reader and present it with a unique angle on how you solve that problem for themÂ
- Make it usable and actionable – the best books and ebooks not only teach the reader through telling them about your experieinces, but they also make a point of turning the lessons you learned into actionable steps so they can use, apply and get results as a benefit of your life experience
- Tell stories – but keep it on point. Stories about your life can be powerful, but only if they are directly relevant to the focus, point and angle chosen from #2…don’t tell a story for the sake of telling a story – always make it relevant to helping your reader solve their problem or achieve their goals/dreams
Your life experiences, knowledge and insight are incredibly valuable sources of information that can be packaged into ebooks, reports, courses and other infoproducts to sell online…but remember that they are only valuable in so much as they help your reader get ahead in their life.
