When you start out with either an e-commerce, content or information product sales site, you absolutely want to pick the right web hosting company – one that is easy to use, is fairly priced (because lets face it, the money isn’t usually rolling in at the start of your online business), and supports the features you need to build blogs, add scripts, check your stats, etc…
What is worse, you may already be having trouble with your existing web hosting company so you may have questions around migration of existing html, WordPress and associated scripts, images and video files you may have to your new web host.
Typically what people are looking for is a web host that provides:
- Shared hosting (also called VPS (virtual shared hosting) Â for more that one domain – so they can host 20, 30 or more domains over time as they grow their online business without buying new accounts
- Cpanel support – this gives you a user-friendly, simple front-end to perform basic functions with your website including managing file uploads/downloads, one-click installs of blogs, setting up email addresses and aliases, securing specific folders/directories (that contain ebook or digital downloads for example), accessing real-time and historical traffic statistics and much more
- Good reliability and technical support. Anyone who has hosted a website online will know the value in having good uptime for their site and depending on great communication with their support desk
- All of this for a fair price – ideally under $30/month
Oddly enough, this combination of factors can be incredibly difficult to find.
I have gone through dozens of webhosts over the past 10-years, finally finding one that fits the bill completely – Hostgator.Â
We have hosted dozens of our sites on Hostgator for 3-years now having had them complete a very complex migration of several high traffic sites, tens of thousands of content pages and 5-year old blog and hundreds of videos, audio and image files.
I was amazed – these guys really rock!
What was really impressive is that I am paying less than $30 for ALL of this – I still have to pinch myself to make sure it is real.
Look, don’t make your search for web hosting more difficult or time consuming than it has to be, my recommendation for web hosting is definitely Hostgator – at least this should help you take one decision off the table 🙂
If you have a question about web hosting or about Hostgator – leave a comment against this blog post, we see and respond to all comments so don’t be shy.
By the way…this just came to mind after the initial post…I do recommend that you buy your domain name through a separate domain name retailer. I like Namecheap
