TV Week is reporting discussions underway between NBC and Tony Robbins for a life coaching reality show that will deal with people who have been knocked off course through tragedy in their lives.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I would love the chance to see Tony Robbins work his stuff…but is that what we’ll get with a reality show?

When Donald Trump launched The Apprentice, did we really learn anything of the inside business and networking knowledge The Donald? Beyond some surface visibility into his personality and strengths, not really.

The challenge with these shows is that they are designed for big E entertainment purposes, not to provide any real substance or content – in fact that sort of useful information seems to be frowned upon as they networks go after the really big ratings.

It remains to be seen what this does for Tony’s reputation as a serious life coach – one could argue the long-term impact of reality shows on other celebrities has been nothing but negative, for that reason alone I hope this one doesn’t make it to TV.

What do you think?
