It used to be that setting up your business on the internet simply meant you needed to have a website, but today when we dig a little deeper into internet marketing you will hear terms like landing page, squeeze page or sales page.Â
Each of these web page designs serves a specific purpose and each one is important to have as part of your online business.Â
Ok, so let’s start with the simplest…
1. What Is A Landing Page?
Simply put, a landing page is any page you direct traffic to. That page could be designed to inform your reader, persuade them to take an action, or brand your company.Â
Say you post an article you have written to an article directory – in the resource box at the end of the article you promote your website – the page that you promote is your landing page in that particular case.
Same thing with an ad – if you place an ad on Google Adwords (a pay-per-click ad network), you define which page you want those who click on your ad to arrive at – that is your landing page.Â
Ok, so by now you understand a landing page is simply a general term to explain any page you send traffic to…a sales page and squeeze page are two “types” of landing pages.
2. What Is A Sales Page?
This may seem like the simplest type of webpage to understand, yet having a single page designed to sell something is often a tough decision for the new internet marketer who gets confused and tries to do too many things on one page.
The objective of a sales page is to do just that – and ONLY that – sell your product or service. So, there should be no other links, any opt-in forms should give way to the sales message – and your message needs to be clear, capture your audience’s attention and convince them that you have the best solution to their challenge or desire.Â
An example of a sales page is http://www.infoproductcreator.com or http://www.attractgreatness.com where we sell specific products – the primary objective of that page is to offer people our product to help them achieve their desired outcome.Â
We have reviewed Million dollar webpages for our members inside InfoMarketer’szone to help them master the persuasion and influence necessary to write effective sales letters.Â
3. What Is A Squeeze Page?
I’m not crazy about the name given to this type of page, but it does have some applicability since the objective of a squeeze page is to squeeze your prospect into taking an action (signing up to your list) in order to get the information you offer.Â
The idea behind a squeeze page is that you can easily double or triple the conversion rate of your sales pages by first “pre-selling” yourself and your solutions through multiple exposures via an email marketing sequence. By creating a relationship with your subscriber, getting them to take some early actions, offering them some great value and hitting them with multiple exposures of your sales site – far more people will buy from a good email campaign than will buy on the first (and possibly only) visit to your website.
So, the idea is to develop a high-value incentive and direct “cold” traffic to your sqeeze page where your prospect will join your list, get valuable information from you and progress through your sales funnel.Â
An example of a “squeeze” page is http://www.infoproductcreator.com/ebook/ where my main purpose is to draw new traffic (from people who have never experienced me or my material before) into being a subscriber so I can build a relationship with them.Â
One of the most important concepts to learn about internet marketing is that every page, article, blog post, etc…you put up should have one of 3 of these purposes…
1. To sell something (a sales page)
2) To persuade someone to opt-in to your list (the main purpose behind a squeeze page)
3) To support one of the previous two purposes.
Everything I produce online in terms of content, blog postings, videos, articles, paid advertising, etc… is designed to either send traffic to the squeeze page or sales page OR be a part of the communication with my list once they have gone through my squeeze page and are now in relationship building mode.Â
The general flow for a new internet business is  Â
Traffic —-> Sqeeze Page —–> Sales Page
The process of multiple exposures of your squeeze page subscribers to your sales site can happen over weeks/months of follow-up – but the chances are higher they will buy after multiple exposures as opposed to one single visit to your site and their gone (that’s why the primary page is usually your squeeze page when you are building your business).
