making an ebookIt seems that everyone has strong opinions on what it is like to make an ebook and become successful information publishers and marketers, yet 99% of these opinions are, at best, misleading with many being outright lies.

How can I say this?

Simple, 99% of the opinions expressed on the topic of ebook publishing or infoproduct marketing are from people who have a) never experienced making an ebook in their lives or b) have never sold more than a few copies of their ebook – are these really the people you should be listening to?

I don’t want to get into an exhaustive listing of my accomplishments, but to summarize a few…

1. I’ve been involved with infoproduct, training and course development for over 10-years creating products that have generated millions of dollars of profits for companies, individuals and myself.

2. I have over a dozen active information products on the market right now in 3 different niche markets including ebooks, reports, audio programs, DVD’s, coaching programs, consulting services and membership sites.

3. I have coached dozens of others in niche markets such as relationships, personal development, pet training, financial services, internet marketing, sports and others to create and improve their information products.

You’ll see much of how we help others achieve their goals with information marketing over at InfoMarketer’sZone

This has been my company’s main business for more than 10-years in which time we have experienced allot, made some mistakes and had a great deal of success.

It is with these credentials that I bring this information to you today.

BLOWING AWAY THE LIES ABOUT MAKING AN EBOOK

Misconception #1:  Just because the information is available for free scattered around the net, there’s no sense making an ebook in the same market.

NOT TRUE. There are a number of reasons I would rather buy consolidated, up-to-date information than spend hours or days trying to track this stuff down.

1) I want to save time.  My time is worth anywhere from $300-$400/hour on average – so if I can pay $97, $497 or even $997 to save me days of work, then it’s worth it to me.  I encourage any of you to work out your current or desired cost of time – once you do, you’ll look at packaged information in a different light

2) For the average internet surfer in non-internet marketing niches, they simply do not know how to find the free information that may be available – so they will value that you have offered it to them in one place – simple and valuable

3) Your customers want to buy from someone they trust – they want to believe in YOU to show them the way, are you positioning yourself to be THE one they can trust?  In busy markets (weight loss for example) there are hundreds of thousands of different options for users to take – they simply want to get one trusted approach to getting results, even if it overlaps with some free information out there.

So, when you think of what you do simply as communicate information, you are missing the main psychology, purpose and business surrounding information publishing – you are not JUST providing information, you are providing guidance, advice and hope to someone who wants to overcome pain or achieve more pleasure in their life.  You, my friend, are about to become the "Pleasure Doctor!"

Misconception #2:  You Have To Already Be A Big Name To Make It Big With An Ebook…

The issue with this is that 99% of the big names you now see selling ebooks or infoproducts in any market didn’t start out to be big names – making an ebook helped them get there.

In fact, when I first started out online I had a name in offline course development in the corporate space, but had 0 reputation or identity in IM.  Within a few weeks of launching my first ebook back in 2000 I had BIG names in IM on the other end of my phone, interviews in play, they were promoting my work (and many of them still do today).  I would argue the exact opposite of this misconception is true, that if you WANT to create a big name for yourself in a given market, you NEED to have your own infoproduct.

Having your own ebook or infoproduct will gain you credibility, connections, trust, partners, publicity, prestige which all conspire to put more money in your wallet.

Misconception#3 eBooks are Over-priced

Ahh…I love when I see this comment because it gets to the heart of the matter and what truly can turn you from an ebook writer into an information publishers and teacher.

People will pay **some** money to be informed, they will pay **more** money to be guided and they will pay **huge** money to have it done for them.

Think about any challenge or opportunity people have in life where the desire level is high…it’s worth something to them to find out all about how to tackle the challenge, it’s worth more to have a blueprint in place to follow to make achieving the end result more likely, faster and simpler and they will pay huge money to have a guaranteed results by using proven templates, tools or consulting services.

When you begin thinking like an information publisher instead of just an ebook writer then you understand what you really are is a "results coach" for your reader or student.  When you focus on getting results for your reader, all sorts of high-end opportunities open up and yes, there is big money to be made.

Getting back to the simple ebook or report – if your written product provides insight, techniques, blueprints, templates, gotcha’s, etc… that can get your prospect from point A to point Z and point Z is where they have a massive desire to be, then yes, you can charge accordingly.

Hopefully this has helped some of you reading…when you follow our 45-day Information Product Profits Blueprint over at InfoMarketer’sZone you will discover the exact steps, techniques and tools you need to further overcome these mis-conceptions and reach your goal of making an ebook a fun reality instead of a frustrating goal.
