Chances are you had plans to make money online with your own internet business in 2008. What if it didn’t happen? The end of the year is quickly approaching and it’s easy to get anxious, feel down or even become overwhelmed by the pressures, so beating ourselves up about what we didn’t accomplish in 2008 is not something we need to do.Â
I’m a firm believer that what happened yesterday and the day before is in the past and does not have to impact tomorrow at all. This post today is all about turning the lessons learned about not making money online into an immediate about-face so you can earn money online in 2009 no matter what has happened up until now.
If you spent 2008 following a few dead-end paths in your quest to make fast money, that’s ok – chances are you learned some valuable lessons and can make huge forward progress in 2009 now that you have a few mistakes out of the way.
If you were able to get your internet business rolling in 2008, but didn’t quite reach your goals – that’s cool too since getting started is 3/4 of the battle, you can expect to make massive progress in 2009.
Perhaps you had a good year in 2008, but now worry about how you take your business to the next level? How do you go from $500/month to $5,000/month or go from $1,000/month to $10,000/month and really start to tear things up within your own make money online websites.
It doesn’t matter if you have had zero income in 2008 or you made your first $50,000 online, there are two important things you can do to dramatically improve your results in 2009.Â
The good part…it doesn’t take any specific knowledge, skill or intelligence, just an understanding, committment and dedication to putting these factors into practice.Â
What are they?
CONSISTENCY AND URGENCY
One thing I do like to do at the end of the year is look back at how much time I spent on my online business.Â
How much time did I spend versus time wasted surfing websites, cleaning my office, shopping for new equipment, watching CNN?Â
I don’t consider exercise or time with my family as time wasted – only time where I could have been more productive.Â
Looking back, could you have spent another 6-8 hours per week on your internet business most weeks in 2008?Â
Then, take a look at how CONSISTENT you were in applying your effort.
For example, if you decided to write 3 articles each week, did you keep that up for AT LEAST six months?Â
You wanted to write a blog posting a day, but did you do that for at least 4 months?Â
Jumping from task to task, strategy to strategy week-by-week will NOT cut it. Making money on the internet depends heavily on consistency….
- Search engines index and place sites based on consistency of content generation
- Visitors turn into subscribers and customers based on consistency of communication and messaage
- Finding the most profitable keywords and ads involves consistent testing and refinement
- Developing high-profit products comes from consistent study, research, communication and testing of your market
- Building your online footprint, brand and profits depends on consistently taking action
I’ve fallen into the trap at times where I find myself in front of CNN for a couple of hours and then ask myself “what did I accomplish tonight?”
Try putting these two words beside your computer (or wherever you will see them throughout the day).Â
CONSISTENCY
and
URGENCY
Consistency depends on you having a plan, once you have the plan, then consistently executing is the best thing you can do to improve results.
Inside InfoMarketer’sZone we have been successful in helping aspiring information entrepreneurs make more money online because we provide the PLAN (a complete, detailed checklist for making money online) backed with detailed instruction, action items and tools backed by a private mentor’s forum where you can get the motivation and answers you need to continually make progress.
I’m sure you have experienced the excitement of actually getting something done, seeing your sales come in, watching as your bank account grows as you become the hub of activity within your niche market.Â
If you have NOT experienced the tremendous feeling of making enough money online to completely replace your job, watch as thousands of subscribers follow you, trust you and buy from you, then you want to get moving in 2009 and make it happen for you too.Â
But how do you stay consistent?Â
That’s where urgency comes in.Â
Urgency is a state of mind that results in…
- Laser Focus
- High productivity
- Massive results
Today, too many of us are task focused instead of “results” focused.Â
We create a list (in our head or on paper) to “DO” many things, but those “To Do” items are rarely the “results” that we crave.Â
There are two important ways you can instantly improve the urgency you have related to your desire to make more money on the internet.
1. Increase the pain associated with NOT making money on the internet. We all have things in our life we are not currently satisfied with or simply cannot stand. These are frustrations, things that make us anxious or even angry. Write them down. Urgency will come if you truly believe that your internet business will help you reduce the pain associated with these negatives in your life.Â
2. Increase the pleasure associated with making money on the internet. Be specific about these. Imagine yourself handing over a $10,000 check to your favorite charity, buying a new swimming pool for your family, riding around your neighborhood in your new Porsche, paying for the best education for your children…
Review your pain and pleasure list daily and watch your level of urgency expand. You will find time you didn’t realize you had, energy that was never there before and you will experience results you never thought possible. If your objective is to realize real wealth in 2009, commit yourself to make money online with consistency and urgency being the important habits.
Consistency is honestly one of my weaknesses but I’m determined to be consistent this 2009. I just hope that this determination remains consistent as well. LOL.
Btw, found this post via twitter. 🙂
Hey Mike – I know what you mean. Saying you will be consistent and doing it are two different things.
There are 3 things I find that help…
1. Having a clear plan – uncertainty usually leads to inconsistency, so the less uncertainty the better
2. Slow and steady wins the race – it’s a marathon rather than a sprint
3. Viewing setbacks as stepping stones to success rather than being de-moralized and letting it impact action.
