Building your own online business or offline venture will make you CRAZY!
There seems like 1000 things to do, know about or explore all while a clock is loudly ticking in your left ear telling you that you need to get things moving, need to get closer to seeing some results, need to start making profit.
We juggle several businesses, some focused on information product marketing, others focused on consulting and training…lots of balls in the air and more than our fair share of opportunity for feeling overwhelmed by it all.
Just when you think you’re making progress, something will inevitably happen out of right field…maybe your webhost goes under, your competition comes out with serious competition or a back-end system fails and you lose months of work (hmmm…come to think of it, each of these have happened to me 🙂
So how do you manage all of this and still successfully make it happen?
Here are some tips you entrepreneurs reading this should find either valuable or perhaps reinforce what you have already experienced:
1. Break Your Plan Into Daily Achievable Actions
There is no conceivable way to stay sane let alone focused and productive if we constantly have 1000 different “things to do” in our minds…what will happen is that your mind will simply shut down and go on to something less painful like watching TV, playing video games or wasting time. In order to make consistent progress and make profits happen in your online business we must make each day less painful by breaking down our workload into 4-6 things that we can achieve each day. You want each day to be busy, but organized, certain and high leverage. That doesn’t mean you can avoid all distractions and that things won’t be crazy around you, because they will. What it does mean is that just like a storm-chaser navigates through a storm, you want to be clear, focused, confident and steady – that will help you make it happen.
2. Stay Focused On The End Game
Now that we have suggested breaking your day into bit-sized tasks that you can focus on and achieve results each day, it also is critical that you stay motivated by the BIG picture of what you are most certainly going to achieve. What is your end objective? What will it be like when you achieve it? Who will be there with you? What value will you have provided on your journey there and what more can you accomplish once you have achieved your goal? Even though daily tasks are aimed at lessening the overwhelm, you still want to be motivated by the BIG picture.
3. Make Certain Of Strong Alignment Between Daily Tasks And End Objective
More critical than anything else is to make sure the 4-6 things that you work at each day and that you get results for applying your time and energy are highly aligned with your end objective. If you read between the lines, this means you will FIRST have to dissect your end objective working backwards to understand the critical steps required to achieve the result and what specific tasks you will perform on your way to making it happen.  So many people I know today have the discipline to focus on their business each day, but they fail to grasp what is the MOST important fundamentals that will make that business successful and make sure they spend their time on those items first. Instead, they flail around reading email, chasing opportunities, networking with the wrong people and generally wasting a huge amount of time, effort and energy.
There it is – if you want to make it happen as an entrepreneur running your own business online or offline then use these 3 principles to massively improve your productivity, become less overwhelmed and reach your ultimate business goals.
