As infoproduct developers, we are always looking for hot, money-making topics to
write a book about or develop other “How To” information products.
When considering new topics, it’s important to consider two important
factors:
1. Is there demand for the topic you are considering
2. Is there a PROVEN model for making money from that demand base.
There are many examples of book topics that show lots of demand (in
terms of identifiable interest group, online web searches, etc…)
BUT…
There are just as many dead-end topics.
That’s where there is lots of demand, but little or know evidence that
anyone is spending money or making money from that market.
To write a book that sells, you need both aspects.
Here’s an example of a market where there is some terrific potential.
Exercise Equipment.
Let’s look at online demand for exercise equipment keywords:
Exercise equipment: 103743/$1.21
home exercise equipment 4116/$1.45
used exercise equipment 3146/ .41
The first number is the number of monthly searchs for the keyword
on overture in the last month.
The second number is the top bid for the keyword.
You will notice that we have demand high AND more importantly, we
see that there is a willingness to pay up to $1.21 per click for
advertising in this market.
If that result stays relatively consistent over a few weeks, you can
be reasonably sure there is money being spent and made in this market.
Next – search under Amazon to find…
a) What has been released and how well it is selling
b) What remains to be done – where are the gaps you could fill
in by writing your own book or infoproduct
Here are a few topics related to exercise equipment selling well
on Amazon today:
“The Great Home Gym Handbook”
“Remodling a Basement, Expert Advice on From Start To Finish”
Interestingly – the last title is among the top 1000 sellers in
it’s category on Amazon – and includes a small section on home
gym design.
Immediately – your “spider sense” should start tingling – is there
an opportunity to write an entire book on designing home gyms?
How about writing a book or infoproduct on low-cost home gym setup?
Here are some other profit producing ideas:
“20 quick and easy exercises for your home gym”
“Setting up your home gym for under $500!”
“10 Examples of Home Gym Designs”
Use this process for developing new ideas to write a book, or
to test existing ideas for profit potential.
Let’s turn that 95% of eBooks don’t sell into a much more
respectable success rate!

Also is it very useful to use a public domain book for your information product. You can find books like that for instance at alibris.com – and if you want to have this books scanned into a edit able word file, you can use services like
http://www.bookscanning.com , then simply edit your file and you will have your next product.

Thanks Thomas – yes, once you know the topic or
idea you are searching for, it makes searching
out public domain information that much easier.
Cheers…
