When you enter into a new market for your info product or affiliate marketing business – or even when you want to get a better handle on a market you are already involved with there are two major ways we teach as part of the 45-Day Info Product Profits System to get fast, accurate feedback from your market.
1. Surveys
You may be just starting to build your list or you may already have a list of a few thousand people, either way, you will need to produce content.
That means, some of the content you would typically sell in terms of your own product or someone else’s product if you want to start by marketing affiliate products must be packaged and given away in order to build up a core of loyal, responsive subscribers.
First, you can use survey tools such as Survey Monkey (which you can use for free for the first 100 responses) or Ask Database where you can construct powerful surveys that range from radio button forced response to open text box "give us your answer" type feedback.
Next, you must have a good sense for what YOU want to know. Ideally, you ask one to two questions in a survey to get the highest and best response. That means you can test one or two ideas maximum, so do your research before so you can ask the right question.
For instance, if you wanted to explore the potential of the "Iguana Pet Owner’s" niche market, you would ask something to the effect of "What is the #1 challenge you are dealing with right now as someone who is or desires to be an Iguana Pet Owner?"
You will get responses that range from those who want help picking an Iguana, those who want to know what it takes to care for them, feed them, etc…
Now, you have dozens of potential topics that can be organized or added to an existing info product AND you can pull a few of the ideas to create a killer report, audio or video series to help you attract subscribers.
For those already on your list you can certainly drive traffic directly to the question in the same way – with the promise of more valuable free content on its way.
2. Your Own Site Statistics
I know many people who have been running sites for the last year and have NEVER looked at their site statistics – they’re missing out on a boatload of intelligence that can directly lead to profitable info product ideas, content ideas and marketing insights.
Specifically, they should have access to…
a) What sites are visited the most
b) What words do they last put in the search engine before reaching your site
c) What referral sites are sending them your way
d) With more advanced tracking you can also see navigation paths and length of time spent on each page.
So, let’s say you have 6 pages setup on your Iguana site – "How To Pick An Iguana", "How To Care for Your Iguana", "How To Feed Your Iguana", "How To Have Fun With Your Iguana" "Iguana Training Videos".
In other words, you setup a content page for each concept or idea you want to test and drive traffic to your site, within a very short time you will see exactly which pages your traffic prefers and what keywords they used to find the information.
Once you understand that most people go to "How To Care For Your Iguana" you have a pretty good idea that’s a potential hot topic for an info product targeted to your niche market.
Over at InfoMarketersZone we outline techniques such as this to make sure you are certain about your target market before launching into months of work developing products around the wrong ideas. If you’re ready to ramp up your info product business or just want to get your first site launched on the way to a full-time online markeing business, head over to The Zone, it will give you a great first-start!
