I was taking my daily walk through my web logs earlier today, with a typical focus on the top traffic generation referrals for my site…
It looked something like…
- My blogs
- Ezine articles from more than two years of article writing
- My various weekly ezine issues drive a great deal of traffic with a significant list built over last few years
- A few of my top affiliates came in with some good numbers in August
- Myspace and YouTube were quite high as well since I had posted some content on Mysapce and a few videos well received on YouTube
- …And Then…
- PRWeb press release that I had issued about 2-months ago
- At least 200 other "long-tail" sources
There are 3 very important lessons I can share with you to help you get more traffic and sales to your business…
1. Well over 50,000 unique visitors came from more than 10 different traffic generation techniques including articles, blog posting, video generation, press releases, affiliate program, strategic linking, forums, Web2.0 sites, interviews and radio shows… etc Point being – use multiple techniques to drive traffic to your site, don’t believe that you can rely on just 1 or even 2 to build significant growth
2. Press releases are a great way to generate traffic – you get a short-term bump, but more important, well-targeted press releases can achieve long-term, high rankings on the search engines building traffic months and months after issuing the initial release. In my experiments, free press releases do work, but even better are the low-end paid for submission ranges such as $30-$60 submissions at PRWeb which will get you very good listing position for most topics.
Here are a few PR submission sites you can start with:
3. Related to #1 – in total I received (and in time so will you if you follow this strategy) more traffic from all of the "long-tail" sources combined than any one of the major traffic generation sources. Even though I may only get a few unique visitors each day from a post on Linked-In answers (just one example), it is consistent traffic day-in, day-out and is highly targeted. Added up in total, these result in thousands of unique visitors each month with corresponding high conversion rates in term so of sales.
Most online marketers would rather give up their first born than to share this type of information privately, let alone publicly on their blog – but really unless you KNOW that multiple traffic generation techniques do add up to significant traffic and sales, you will continue to struggle in the low-range never being able to build your business to the next level.
