Do you have busy-itis?

Busy-itis is the condition of fooling yourself into thinking you are making progress when you are in fact not.

Busy-itis sneaks up on you, and if you don’t have a clear view on what the 3 most important activities (linked to a plan for results), then it is very easy to slip into this condition without even being aware.

How do you combat it?

1. Have a plan for offering tremendous value to your marketplace, a method of monetization for offering this value and a marketing plan around communicating that value to the marketplace

2. A clear, concise action plan around each of these areas a) Finding opportunities for offering value b) monetization methods and c) marketing plan linked to offering this value.  This action plan must also clearly indicate the tasks and skill required to accomplish the plan…so that you can be most efficient about how and who fulfills each of these steps in the plan

3. Map of resources to tasks, taking into account what you bring to the table versus what you can get someone else to do (a partner, outsource resource of employee).

From this you should have a top 3 list of activities you MUST work on and set of results you expect to achieve as a result of these activities so you can focus.

Now, you can block out everything else for a period of time – it could be 2-3 hours in the morning each day when you stop answering email, stop answering the phone, don’t talk with anyone else in the office, etc…or a day or two in the week where you dedicate it to massive productivity.
