One of the most misunderstood concept about highly successful entrepreneurs reach high levels of success is the role of urgency and patience.
Many aspiring entrepreneurs believe that the same impatience that led them into their mindset of bucking the system and becoming their own boss must also drive their effort to build their business.
On the other hand, any top-level entrepreneur knows that success does not come overnight nor does it come without several challenges, setbacks, false starts, do-overs and periods of extreme adversity.
The reality of building a highly successful business is that you must learn to mix impatience and patience – for many that is a challenge they never master and so their business fails to reach the next level.
Impatience Drives Desire
We have worked with enough top entrepreneurs inside InfoMarketer’sZone, in partnerships and through our various reach-out platforms such as this blog to know that entrepreneurs have a level of impatience for the status quo unlike any other.
That’s what forces them into a life of an entrepreneur – for them, there is NO OTHER OPTION.
That’s what drives them to have a different take on the conventional route than most of the rest of the world.
To most people, their entire focus is around preparing themselves to get a job and then work the rules to the point where they can be promoted, make extra money and secure the future for themselves and their family.
There is no impatience with how the education system or their job’s work in terms of providing regular paychecks, benefits and opportunities above them to one-day receive a promotion as well as regular increases in pay.
The only impatience may come from how long that takes, who they have as a boss or manager along the way and if anything happens to jeopardize that path such as layoffs or cutbacks.
On the other hand, an entrepreneur sees the conventional path as risky, slow, and extremely limiting.
True entrepreneurs simply cannot exist within this system, their impatience will not allow them to be controlled, told what to do, forced to wait and be placed within the system and then have their creativity, energy and potential financial return capped.
Impatience is an absolute essential factor in decision that entrepreneurs make to take their chosen path – to risk a steady paycheck and conventional path to feeding their family in favor of building out their own skills, company and financial return.
The challenge arises when this same impatience is applied the exercise of building their brand, sales inflow, profit and organization.
The same impatience that spawned the entrepreneur will kill them in the end if applied to their business building activity
Patience Drives Successful Entrepreneurs
Take any highly successful entrepreneur and get to know their background, the struggles they have faced and the patience they have had to show in overcoming those obstacles.
Right away it becomes obvious that the impatience fueling their drive to build a business and take an alternative path to making a living MUST give way to patience in terms of facing adversity, testing (and failing) in markets, handling both champions and haters and dealing with others who will help them scale their business to something much bigger than one person alone can build.
Most aspiring entrepreneurs do not yet understand the importance of being motivated by impatience but practicing patience in successfully reaching their desired business results.
Recognize that succeeding at business means taking a long-term approach to winning, but win you will.
Know that you will learn more from setbacks and failures than you will from staying the course – and that takes patience
Understand that you are on a life-long journey that will see you grow in order for your business to grow – and again that takes immense self-awareness and patience.
What about you, do you see a role for both impatience and patience in your life and business?
