First we had spam, then comes bacn – a new term that explains the desirable, but not personal emails we get from various Web2.0 type sites, have you received bacn from these sites:

  • Myspace invitations
  • Facebook invitations
  • Classmates.com notifications
  • Linked-in notifications and invitations
  • newsletter and subscriptions you’ve signed up for legitimately
  • Automated forum or blog updates that notify you daily or weekly

I’m not sure we needed another term to explain email, but they do have a point that we are receiving a new "type" of email that is neither spam nor high priority email – bacn will just become a sort of low-priority mail, most of which will just end up clogging your email list – given your priorities at that point in time.

A better way to use Web2.0 is to find like-minded content and groups and contribute something yourself so that you communicate through mutually beneficial content instead of trying to constantly persuade someone based on bacn to join your network.

But that’s just my opnion…what do you think of bacn?
