Maybe it’s just the fact that today is Monday…

Or, perhaps we’ve all been drugged by some contaminant in the water we are unaware of…

Could it be that most marketer’s just simply think YOU and I are ridiculously stupid?

You tell me if I’m being unreasonable today, after all it is Monday and after a terrific weekend with my kids, I might be a little grumpy as I open my daily raft of emails…BUT seriously folks, this is some REALLY bad headline writing from big name marketers who should know better.

Here are a few that got the “Instant Delet-o-matic” from me first thing this morning – what really shocked me though was the names beside some of these…

“How To Cause An Avalanche of Sales For Your Business”
– Pleeeeease! What could be more unimaginative than the “cause an Avalanche” metaphore

“Get more sales, leads and traffic Now!”
– Hmmm…got it all in there didn’t they?

“XX[Insert Guru Here] Is Offering To Personally Mentor You” – I can smell something fishy about this before I even get to the end of the headline – NEXT!

On the Other Hand…

Just so I can’t be accused of always being negative, here are a few email headlines I DID like enough to open this morning – kudo’s to the authors…

“Have you Quit Yet?” – It’s attention grabbing, short, hits an emotional trigger for most newbie internet marketers, and intrigues me to look further.

“Do You Make These Screw Ups with ____” – I like this one because it’s engaging, the use of “screw ups” is not used often and after all, nobody wants to be making mistakes.

As you can see, there are many more emails I didn’t open than those that compelled me enough to open – pay attention to your headline writing.
