One of the great things about selling your own ebook, report or information product online is that if you have chosen a topic properly, you will continue to see sales for years after you initially launch.
I would have never imagined that spending 6-weeks back in 2000 writing the first version of “The Ultimate Information Entrepreneur’s Success Package” would have still been selling just as well today as it did when I first launched almost 10-years ago!
When people talk to me about the short-term money that can make by selling their own ebook online or the short-term bump in credibility or profits from related businesses I crack a smile because I know that they have no idea they will potentially be creating a life-long income stream from a few weeks work.
The only other businesses I can think of where you get the same degree of leverage from so little time are things like song royalties or royalties on software you develop and embed where you get paid for decades.
Wait a minute…there is SOME work to do to keep your product current.
That’s what I was working on today. Each year I spend about 2-days updating my ebooks with the latest information, new research, improved delivery of information, added case studies, updated checklists or resources…but it really is only a matter of a few hours work.
For instance, I collect ongoing feedback from subscribers, research I come across, my own experiences, surveys to customers and questions I get from consulting clients that gets integrated back into my information products.
Whenever I email a consulting client a response, I keep that and copy it into my ebook if it makes sense.
Today, that’s what I did.
I spent the first half of the day re-organizing two of the steps within the Success Package to improve the process based on my own experience – then I added a new chapter based around some questions I answered for a client around blogging and social networking to market books and ebooks.
A few other changes and wham! I have an updated version of the ebook that will continue to sell for years to come.
If you are still considering writing your own ebook or book, then have you considered that the small amount of time you put in now will still be paying you 2, 5 even 10 years from now?
Worth thinking about – REALLY!
