A recent post on a popular marketing forum reminded me of a question I’ve been asked a few times by subscribers and coaching clients – in fact, the first time it happened to me, I wondered the exact same thing…

What happens when I see that my competitor has ordered my information product – won’t they steal my format, ideas and business away from me?

Bottom line is – there’s not much you can do about it.

But, even if there was, you probably don’t want to, and here’s why.

From first hand experience, you never know exactly why a competitor purchases your product, it may turn out quite positive for you.

In my case, one of my competitors purchased my product early on – not only did I fear he would steal some of my ideas, but that he would use his knowledge of what was in my product to discredit me in the industry, after all, he was a rather big name.

Turns out I was dead wrong.

Less than a week later, I noticed he signed up for my affiliate program and within hours, a sudden burst of traffic came my way. For whatever reason, he had decided to move onto other projects and wanted an alternative to his products – for that I paid him his affiliate commissions, a perfect deal.

Since then, I’ve had more than a few potential or actual competitors order my products, and each time either something good has happened, or nothing at all.

So take it from me, if you suddenly see your competitors name in your inbox having ordered your information product, don’t panic, its far more likely you will benefit than lose.
