Now that we have lost one of the greatest athletes and influencers of ALL TIME, we can reflect on the wider lessons that he taught us…and for me, the lesson is VERY simple…
You liberate yourself, those around you and those who follow you by believing in yourself, staying true to yourself and having the courage to never back down from your convictions
Success in life and in business are one and the same for me, just as Muhammad Ali’s professional rise to the TOP of the boxing world was inseparable from his life (his teachings, his religion, his politics, his compassion, his family and more…) – so should your life be designed as a whole.
The idea of going to work for 8-hours a day, then spending an hour with your kids and then praying once a week and then going out partying with your friends and then once in a while reflecting on your life each as separate activities – not to be mixed with the other – has always seemed ludicrous to me.
You can’t spend 40-60 hours a week at a JOB that you either hate or that you do not LOVE, then somehow live a life of passion, reason and purpose — trying to achieve that will drive you insane.
A better approach is to find out what your passion and what you are GREAT at (like Ali did with boxing when he was 12), develop unwavering CERTAINTY and BELIEF over your ability to dominate that space (as Ali did all his life) and then commit to being the absolute best person so you can realize your certain belief that you will achieve what you set out to do.
Too many people are living a life path of apathy (at best) or anger and anxiety (at worst) because they are NOT following their true beliefs, passion and not doing what they are best at.
They follow someone else’s path, become lost and no longer play to their strengths which further erodes their confidence and certainty.
They no longer believe in themselves and so no one else believes in them.
They lose their ability to influence and improve the lives of people around them NOT because they can’t…but because they won’t!
This is a time for you to reflect on your own purpose in life, are you committed to what you are best at, what you love and what you KNOW you are good at?
If not – WHY not?
At the end of the day, what Muhammad Ali teaches all of us is to be who we are, do what we MUST do, influence the world with our BEST and have the unwavering belief and certainty that by doing what we are meant to do we will come out on top – certain faith.
Here is a great video I watch regularly where he talks about the power of spirit, belief and self-confidence…let this motivate and inspire you into taking action to find your purpose, passion and reason in life.
