Over the last few years blogs popped up in the Billions, and most of them end up lasting a few months, dying a slow death as their authors move on to another phase of their life or can’t seem to figure out how to turn their interest in sharing or writing from a hobby into a business.

Yet, there are others who have figured out that blogging can be one of the most powerful methods of building an online business EVER…but that depends on knowing how to turn words on a page into money without alienating your readers.

The reality is there are many possible ways of making money from your blog – there is:

  • PPC (Google Adsense) for smaller, lower traffic niche blogs
  • Block and Text Ads you sell yourself or through a broker
  • CPA (Cost Per Action) ads
  • Reviews
  • Affiliate Marketing (where you promote someone else’s related products for commission)

You CAN make money in many different ways, but interestingly, the big name bloggers who have been bringing in dough using advertising and affiliate marketing are almost without exception now earning more from their own products than any other single income source.

Also, if you read any of these leading bloggers they often mention that they waited too long in focusing on list-building – yes they have a loyal readership, but they also want to have a list of top prospects for monetization.

So, that means…making money from your blog should look something like this:

1. Make sure you focus on a market and niche where there is urgency, frustration and demand for information….this sets you up nicely for producing your own infoproducts in the near future

2. Answer a compelling question or offer a tip each day, organized around some keywords that your research shows are used by your target audience

3. Have an incentive offer (freebie) that you can offer your readers for taking the next step and signing up to your list…you can easily build 1000’s of subscribers in a few weeks this way

4. From your posts, look closely at those questions and comments with the most views and comments — these will give you a clue to what it is people reading your blog are most interested in.  This is critical — your market will TELL YOU exactly what topics and information they are most interested in…all you have to do is listen and act.

5. Put a mini-infoproduct together focusing on the leading posts – 20-page report, 40-page ebook is often good to get started and offer it for an intro price to your subscribers.  If you need help with putting your information product together – use the resources at InfoMarketer’sZone to master infoproduct creation and marketing.

6. From there – you expand toward advanced courses, consulting or coaching programs, private membership sites or create another couple of targeted ebooks where you can eventually bundle them, upsell and cross-sell to really bring in the bacon.

We have used this system on 4 of our own internet businesses and have helped dozens of others do make money from blogs they own and operate.  Have a plan and execute, before long you can be earning a living from your blog.
