For regular readers on this blog and members of our InfoProduct Developer’s Resource Site, you’ll know what I mean when I say that every great “How To” or informational non-fiction book focuses on helping the reader to realize a desired outcome.
That outcome may be to avoid pain, to overcome an illness, beat stress, reduce the pain associated with getting old or it could be to bring about positive outcomes such as losing weight, being happier, making more money, having well-behaved kids they can be proud of.Â
Bringing about an outcome is CRITICAL for any ebook, book, home study program or workshop – if you can identify a highly desired outcome and then offer a solution to help your reader get there, they will pay you rather massive amounts of money to achieve these results.Â
But let’s peel back the onion one level further.
Is it REALLY the outcome they want?Â
Indirectly, yes.
But isn’t it really the FEELING they perceive they will have once they have realized the result?
Losing weight gives you confidence, strength and an unstoppable feeling that will help give you more influence over others and “fit in” with society.Â
Having well-behaved kids will help relatives and friends to like you…to hold you in high esteem, perhaps even flower you with prestige.
Likewise, avoiding the pain associated with lack of sleep or low self-esteem can lift a cloud that hangs wearily over many people’s heads today.
Anyone can write their own highly successful “How To” or information-based ebook, book, report, or training course IF you tap into desire to experience emotional high’s or overcome emotional low’s behind a desired outcome.Â
For example, here is a middle-aged woman who recently wrote about the experience mid-life women go through when their hair turns gray – it’s aptly titled “Amazing Gray’s”
Read this interview and notice some of the more powerful emotional factors that led to the choice of topic…mid-life women will wonder…
- Will I continue to be lovable, desirable?
- Can I still make a difference?
- Is my life almost over?
Underlying these questions, and others asked within the book are the emotions of fear, uncertainty and anxiety. These are pretty major emotions – thus the powerful nature of this topic.
So, when you are considering writing your own book, ebook or info product – make sure you tie your topic back to desired outcomes AND the emotions that drive that desired outcome…do this and you wil have a winner.Â
