Doesn’t internet marketing online seem like it should be so simple?

After all there are 1.5 Billion users connnected to the internet, Millions of searches daily and Billions of dollars being spent both marketing and buying products online.

To top it all off, there seems to be an internet marketing tool for every aspect of marketing online from market research through keyword research, online survey tools through make money training programs. 

As someone who has built several niche market internet businesses online over the last few years, I can safely say…

  • There is a massive opportunity to capture big money with online direct marketing
  • Yes, you certainly can build a virtual business marketing products, services and content on the internet – no question about it!
  • You can most certainly exceed your current full-time income by combining the internet and marketing without having staff or even an office
  • Tapping into specific markets with the right marketing strategies can result in a flood of income that sometimes reminds me of what it must have been like in the days of the gold rush – or when an oilman taps into a new oil deposit
  • You can not only build a leveraged income stream with your internet business, but you can build your brand and build website and business value that can be “cashed in” by you or a member of your family – in other words, you are building equity as well as income

But, it’s worth stating right up front…

The failure rate I see for internet marketers today is extremely high – somewhere in the neighborhood of 98% if I were to really do the calculations…

One of the biggest reasons for this failure is the paradox of traffic generation and making money on the internet. 

What I mean by this is that we have a mass of web marketers investing in internet advertising online, trying to grow their web businesses who are busy chasing all kinds of traffic without really understanding what it takes to make sales. 

Are you confused about the following questions?

 1. Should I spend more money on advertising?
2. Should I be developing hundreds of keyword-focused content sites?
3. How about paying more attention to keyword-focused blog postings?
4. Could I be placing more pay-per-click ads with Google or MSN?

We all know we want more traffic, but the common mistake we make is that all traffic is created equal.

In other words, we assume that there is a constant number of visitors that will buy what we are selling – say 2 in 100 – and so if we can generate tens of thousands of visitors each month, we’ll be rich – right?

Are you trying to generate Adsense or other advertising revenue by directing traffic to content sites where you will be paid by click, impression or fixed-rate ad revenue?

It’s important that you keep in mind your objective and be as smart about your traffic generation as you can in terms of the ultimate outcome (a sale or ad revenue).

This is VERY important.

Why?

Because the very FIRST thing you need to do if you are trying to master marketing on the internet (your own product or an affiliate product) is to figure out which keywords result in actions (sales or list signups). 

Here’s an example, let’s say you are thinking of developing content around a primary keyword of ‘weight loss’ – but you don’t know if you should generate many articles, blog posts and other content around that keyword, it’s many derivitives or the thousands of other long-tail keywords that symantically related to weight loss such as diet, nutrition, fat loss, exercise, etc…

The entire task seems overwhelming…where should you focus your effort first?

HERE’S WHERE THE MISTAKES ARE MADE

Ok, so this is exactly where HUGE mistakes are made and money is lost.  This is the turning point where many internet businesses fail miserably – when it really doesn’t have to happen that way.

Here’s one of the most difficult concepts to understand IF you are not testing, monitoring and analyzing your every visitor each day – are you ready?

There may be hundreds of others that are excellent actors and that produce amazing results in other movies playing other roles, but for this role, there is only a select few right combinations.
