How many subscribers do you need before you can really begin to earn ongoing income from your internet marketing? What are the key internet marketing strategies that will ensure you have a growing and responsive list?

Does your business strategy need to aim for a list of subscribers that numbers 1,000, 10,000, 100,000?

THE BIG LIST MYTH

How much money you can count on from your list is somewhat of a moving target.

Of course, this depends heavily on your profit per subscriber which, in-turn depends heavily on what the selling price and net profit is of what you are offering to your list, how often you can generate that profit and how many of them buy. 

In other words, if you have a $997 home study course to offer your list where your net profit (what you keep after paying for costs such as reproduction, shipping, minus any commissions you pay out) is $597 and you have a conversion rate of 4% – then hear are the results you can expect:

   (1,000 subscribers X4%) X $597 = $23,880
   (10,000 subscribers X4%) X $597 = $$238,800

The same conversions with a lower-end info product package where you offer a bundle of audio, video and an ebook for $97 and you keep $87 as profit.

    (1,000 subscribers X4%) X $87 = $3,480
    (10,000 subscribers X4%) X $87 = $34,800

So now that we understand we’re not trying to build an immediate list of 100,000 subscribers – or even 10,000 subscribers at first, we can figure out a simple internet marketing strategy where we can add between 100 and 200 subscribers/month in your first few months leading you toward a 12-month list target of between 1,200 and 2,400 subscribers. 

Yes, often these techniques will work MUCH better and you may very well end up with a list of over 5,000 or even 10,000 subscribers, but focus on your first 1,000-2,000 and you’ll have built the beginnings of a very profitable online business.

Blogging
Social Networking like Twitter or Facebook
Putting Up a Squeeze Page
Paying For Advertising Through Banners or PPC

JV/Partner
etc…

Yes, these are all excellent, highly recommended techniques to get traffic to your site, but they will NOT help you build a list quickly UNLESS…

You have a top notch incentive that converts between 5-10% of your visitors into subscribers (at least). An online business strategy that focuses entirely on traffic generation without paying attention to conversion is doomed.

To do that, you must have:

  • Identified the end outcome your prospect desires
  • Give them a reason WHY your solution will help them get there
  • Offer Proof that it works
  • Supply them with tremendous value in exchange for their opt-in
  • Keep them engaged with a multi-part solution, follow-up help, etc…

What many internet marketers do that almost guarantees a poor list-building result is to slap any old ebook, report, e-course or video up on their site and expect that their visitors will somehow me magically hypnotized into stupidity such that they will offer up their contact information in return for unrelated incentives with low perceived value. 

The key to list building is to understand it’s NOT just a matter of offering any ebook, video or report – it is offering THE ebook, video or report they absolutely CANNOT resist because they want the end result you offer them so badly. 

Traffic generation and converting that traffic into eager, targeted subscribers are two very different skills…both are critical to your internet marketing strategy and must be mastered if you are to quickly build a high quality list that turns you into a full-time internet marketer.Â
