I’ve been asking myself lately why there are so many questions around finding ideas for ebooks or information publishing businesses when there is already so much information on how to research markets available to people…IN OTHER WORDS,
Where do YOU get STUCK?
Go ahead and reply by placing a comment to this blog posting and we’ll overcome this issue once and for all — after all, finding a topic that hits your prospects right in the GUT emotionally is the single most important factor in your ability to make a fortune with your own information products.
Here is my BEST advice from years of uncovering product ideas…
1. Look to see what other information they are buying…CB Marketplace is one way, Amazon, magazines.com, For Dummies series, etc…are all others ways. See the topics that are selling better than others, notice the range, but also patterns of topics in your area of interest. But don’t STOP there…
2. Here’s the part that is a little tricky, but if you get this right, you will never have to worry about attracting demand to your information products ever again…in fact, if you take action on this Mystery X factor, you will see such a flood of demand your challenge will be keeping up rather than finding interested buyers.
Let’s say you find 8 reasonably good selling products on any or across these sources, the trick is to then put yourself in the buyers position. People buy information to get an end result. That end result is usually to Be, Do, Have something or Be Seen in a certain way.
Once you understand the big WHY, then you can target that same WHY in a different way.
People buy information because they are convinced that it will put them in a better place in their lives…and here’s the really whacky part…there desire may be totally irrational!
That’s right, you may know there is very little chance of them ever accomplishing their goal, but don’t right that off. The mistake many people make is using logic to guage what information they think people NEED rather than letting them tell you what information they WANT.
That’s why I typically target my information at IRRATIONAL PASSION and focus on the 10% or less of people that may really be able to achieve this irrational desire, but that every fricken one of them want SO BADLY!
In my experience using market research to discover hot topics has as much to do with understanding the motivation behind what people are buying as it does with actually seeing evidence of what they are buying.
