Everyone who now makes a living or part-time income from their online business started with nothing – no list, no website, no customer list, no partnerships, no reputation and just a few ideas floating around their head.

More than anything…the uncertainty, fear and sharp learning curve results in many people never getting started.  Others start with one website and when they don’t see immediate results, they pack it up and give up on their dreams.

What I’m trying to say is that we’ve all asked the question – Where Do I Start when we get rolling with our own internet business.

Here are a few places I recommend you look to get started fast:

1. This blog — seriously, go back a few months postings and read through them.  The postings on this blog are taken directly from our own internet business experience not theory.  We tell you what works, what doesn’t work and give you an idea of what is MOST important to your internet business.

2. Head over to this rich Article Site and read through the list of articles – these are again right from real online business and the entire article directory is Free

3. Start by picking a market that both holds some interest for you and shows proven buying behavior for the products you intend to market to them.  For instance, if you want to market information (ebooks, books, courses, etc…) then make sure your market is already buying books in that topic area.  They don’t necessarily have to be buying an exact competitor – but you want to know they are buying information in the general area of your topic.

4. Focus on building a relationship.  With your internet business you are in the information publishing business.  In exchange for information, you marketplace gives you their contact information, their trust, their attention and eventually, if you cultivate them well, they will give you their money.   So – when you launch your site, target information they want to know about.  What questions do they ask?  What information are they searching for?  Your internet business needs to focus on build a tight bond with your readers and subscribers.  Do that with articles, web pages, product reviews, blogs, forums – anything that will help you get closer to your marketplace will improve the results of your internet business

5. Seek your own voice and position in a marketplace.  You will often find yourself in busy markets – that’s where people are spending money after all.  So, it’s important that you bring something unique to the space.  It could be a unique formula, insight, an ability to read your market better than your competition anticipating what they want before others do.  While you can start your internet business without this differentiation, you should begin to craft that differentiation sooner rather than later – within a few months for sure if not right at the beginning.

I hope you can see why starting your own internet business means more than just launching an affiliate site or a single-page website.  You want to develop an information site that helps attract and hold the interest of your audience.  That will keep your marketplace coming back from more, paying attention to what you say and when the opportunity comes up – they will give YOU their business before anyone else.

Finally, once you are ready to get rolling, it’s good to have a mentorship or coaching arrangement that can help you get started fast, answer questions as they come up and allow you to make day-by-day progress instead of getting stuck and losing momentum as you grow.  Over at InfoMarketer’sZone, we have focused the site around those getting started who need ongoing information, training, tools and mentoring on our private mentorship discussion forum.  So head over and join the growing internet business community at InfoMarketer’sZone.
