I allowed myself a few moments to float through some of the marketing and writing forums I like to visit this morning and came across an interesting post from a writer who asked about other writer’s reading habits.

Many of you reading this blog are currently (or are considering) putting together your own written, audio or video information products – how-to informational products that make up a large portion of the current book and educational market , so what are your reading habits?

Are you a voracious reader?  Do you read fiction, non-fiction – what niches interest you most?  Let us know by commenting below.

In my case…

I do read a great deal..but there’s certainly a difference between reading for pleasure and reading as part of researching a new infoproduct or project.

When I’m creating a new product I am in research mode which is quite different. I’m looking across a wide spectrum of work specifically looking for patterns, gaps, opportunities, clues to where I can improve on the current state of information – these typically are always in the non-fiction space as that is where I create all of my products and coach others.

Reading for pleasure – still non-fiction but spans everything from psychology, social trends, fashion, sports, bio’s, music to business and marketing.

Most of all – I think it’s important for writers and information product publishers to be involved in life.  Being involved in many different fields brings you a perspective and experience base that makes your information products stand out from the crowd.
