Welcome to today’s Apprentice updates – business lessons you can use for
your venture.

OPENING SHOCKER: Verna couldn’t hack it and quits – first time ever
in 3 seasons of show.

FIRST LESSON: Leadership – rare that you could lead by consensus,
have to be willing to go AGAINST the majority. Think independently.

THE CHALLENGE: Nestle – more than $100Billion. Nescalfe Taster’s Choice – create a
marketing campaign with massive budget.

Team that creates most buzz (as judged by Nestle execs) wins.

BUSINESS LESSONS

1. Decisiveness – must be able to make a decision quickly, intelligently
under pressure. Putting off a decision is only going to make matters
worse in most situations. Danny lost valuable time and the confidence
of his Magna team through indecision.

2. Inspire passion in your team, get them excited – bought in and behind
you 100%

3. Great marketing campaigns must be based on a theme, there must be
an underlying purpose and motive behind every aspect of the campaign.
Great launches play out a story – your market gets caught up in that
story and participates – that’s when you have them. Net Worth had the
theme – Magna did not.

WINNER Tonights winner – Street Smarts (Net Worth)

WINNING PRIZE: 12-seat hellicopter ride over Manhatten with the Donald

WHO WAS FIRED

What makes the Apprentice a TV show rather than just another day at the
office is the TWIST. Each show has a twist.

In this show, the losing team – Magna – makes a pitch to get the “exempt” member from last show fired, trying to get Trump to make an
exception to one of the rules layed out in the show.

The result – it backfired, rules had to be respected and attempt at
thwarting the rules didn’t provide a great deal of confidence in Danny’s
judgement. Danny was fired – two project managers in a row.

This episode was all about decisiveness and leadership – two of the
most powerful aspects in business.
