For most people, turning their dream of writing a book will never be realized – they will leave this world without ever having even tried to turn their thoughts, ideas and creativity into words.
What’s interesting is that for most people, what stops them from ever getting that first chapter written are things like: picking a topic, generating an idea for how the story will go, finding the time to write, knowing the basics of how to write a book – in other words, its mostly about getting your book planned and written.
While getting your book or ebook written can certainly be challenging – though made much easier by courses such as InfoMarketer’s Success Package – the real challenge for experienced authors is breaking through the agent/publisher screen to get their first publishing contract.
To many people’s surprise, the chances of actually breaking through are very small, and even when you do, the profit you will make from a decent selling book are hardly enough to live on – BUT…the spinoff profits can be substantial.
For instance, if you use your book to drive traffic back to a website where you offer additional products and services – then you can really build an information ecosystem.
Here are 2 authors interviewed by Deseret News recently "Authors Tales – Writers Recount Struggle To Get Published" where the point becomes crystal clear that the real challenge was working their way through the publishing industry.
Notice that it took years for them to understand enough about the publishing industry and how to write to get their first publishing contracts. Even then, it will take time before they see their first cent.
Now, I’m not against traditional publishing – in fact I believe everyone has a book idea within them that could successfully, one-day, become a published book and sell well. But…the reality is that there are many other avenues to make money with your writing.
Turning out your own ebooks, reports, courses, workshops on many topics is a feasible way to go. People want information, they want to know how to do things, how to avoid making mistakes with others, how to improve themselves or their situations – relationships – jobs – sex life – health – and so on.
You could easily have 4-5 of your own hot selling ebooks, self-published books, courses or high-end workshops making you more than 100K a year before heading the traditional publishing route – that way you can actually make a good living from your writing and have set yourself up well when that big publishing contract does come.
