Over the last few days I have more than a dozen serious inquiries from people who are ready to turn their career, life or hobby experience into their own top selling ebooks and infromation products.
In the last 8-years I’ve seen hundreds follow this same path turning their own knowledge and interests into high paying ebooks. Some have done well, others not so well and a few have done extremely well.
Here are the 3 steps followed by those who have succeeded when trying to write an ebook about their experiences:
1. First, they realized they had something to offer to their market. This may seem obvious when reading, but the fact is many, many others we coach overlook the most obvious topics where success could come much quicker because those too close to a market don’t realize what they have. Read "Turning Your Experiences Into Profitable eBooks" to get a better idea on realizing what you may already have.
2. Second, you need to estimate demand for information that already exists within your potential market. Not only do you want to see signs of competition where others are selling ebooks or books into your market, you also ideally would like to see some high-end products such as seminars, workshops, bootcamps, dvd’s, membership sites, etc…that would allow you to go "up-market" – a fancy term for your business being able to grow at a much faster pace. Here’s a great free video on a top method for investigating demand as you consider writing your ebook. Watch "Instant Hot eBook Topics" here.
3. Positioning Yourself For Maximum Profits. This may sound trite, but the fact is anyone can write an ebook about a topic (or have one written), what makes the difference between a top selling ebook and one that languishes in the "few sales a month" category is the "angle" or positioning you apply within your market. Otherwise known as "Unique Value Proposition", you must understand your competition and where you can fit in so that your coverage of the topic 1) Is perceived as unique 2) Contributes extra value to your reading community . No fear, here are a few ways to help you get a better grasp on identifying your Unique Value Proposition.
Remember, don’t underestimate the experience you have – although it may not seem like much to you, think about the person who is just interested or trying to enter your area of expertise, or the consumer who requires your information but may not have access to you or your brain. In this way, your ebook becomes a way you get to share all that you know with the world.
