It’s one of the first questions someone asks when they are investigating online business models and come across the possibility of creating and marketing their own ebooks or information products.
“Will ebooks still sell?”
“Will people still buy ebooks?”
“Is it still profitable to sell ebooks online?”
There are usually two concerns people have when they ask this question:
1. eBooks have lost any value they once had, so it can’t be worth writing your own ebook or
2. Your market is saturated, so it will no longer be practical or profitable to write and sell an ebook in your market
Fortunately, this is an easy question to answer – especially considering I have more than 12 information products in 3 different markets AND run a very busy Private Site for fast-moving information product publishers and ebook authors.
The answer, it is more profitable than EVER to write and sell your own ebooks online when you follow these tips:
1. Certain markets lend themselves better to ebooks than others. There are still many, some I have had direct experience (or have coached others who have had direct experience) include Health and Wellness, Fitness, Finance, Small Business, Internet Marketing, Relationships, Collecting, Popular Hobbies, Pet Care. I’m not saying these are the only markets, but they are among the leading markets for informational e-books. Before writing your own ebook you want to research the market, discover problems that your audience want solved badly and take your cue from what is already selling.
2. Don’t think of your ebook as a goal in itself, think of it as the first step in opening up a million dollar information product marketing empire where you will build an ecosystem of products, services and tools over time that will add more and more value to your marketplace. Of course, you can write one ebook, achieve some nice profits for months (even years) to come, achieve some fame and fortune and use the money to enhance your lifestyle. But, if you want to build a really substantial income, an enterprise that will elevate your status, then an ebook is your starting point.
3. eBooks will only become major sellers if they tap into a high demand, have a compelling title, treat your topic in a unique way (in terms of the content, organization, depth, simplicity or format) and are effectively marketed. This means the work you put into picking your market, refining your topic, testing the idea and outline, creating your own unique angle on the topic and applying basic, consistent marketing will be the key to your payoff.
Yes, ebooks still sell. Yes, you can build an infoproduct empire starting with an ebook. No, your market is never saturated, there are always ways to discover new problems and create new, unique ways of addressing these problems.
