The words constancy and persistence seem to contradict being dynamic, agile and embracing change don’t they?
If you are building your online business, you have been (no doubt) told to be persistent, consistent and focused on your business model, product development and marketing
Then again, when you look at some of the most successful businesses of all time, they ALL have gone through evolution, points where they had to pivot 90-180 degrees, failing to do so meant they would not be where they are today
The same thing goes for your business
How do you know when to stay consistent and persevere versus knowing when to pivot and change?
As entrepreneurs we like to pride ourselves in never giving up, never relenting and sticking with our ideas until the very end.
After working with many businesses over at InfoMarketer’sZone, here is the rule we go by regarding perseverance versus change:
1. Going ALL-IN with 110% commitment, un-relenting consistency and focus must be the rule BUT should be done with a finite set of criteria to test the assertion upon which that commitment is based. In other words, have a start and end date and objective in mind when you start these short bursts of business growth and testing
2. The results of your test indicate whether you should pivot or not. Failure to meet your objectives means you take what you have learned and you quickly pivot in a new direction and repeat the process again relying on measurable results
Using this model you avoid the often-repeated mistake we make as entrepreneurs of falling in love with our own ideas and businesses at the expense of missing massive potential from a pivot
