Because I spend most of my time teaching entrepreneurs, speakers, opportunity seekers, home business workers and professionals how to packge information to sell online – inevitably I spend a great deal of time talking and watching writers too.
Those who truly love to right are a fascinating group – most have a terrific ability to quickly gather and research a topic, identify in-demand topics, put together a coherant piece of writing that is both compelling, organized and typically “hooks” the reader into the story.
In other words, they have all the skills necessary to make a fortune with their own information products, yet 99% of them are starving!
I just got off the phone this morning with a writer who is completely stressed out, frazzled – he’s spent the last 12-months chasing work, but mostly NOT getting paid. When he does get paid he is competing with a dozen (or in some cases 100’s) of other equally frazzled, strapped for cash writers.
it’s true, most true writers do not write for the money – they are not seeking a fortune, but DO want to earn enough to pay the bills, continue what they love to do and perhaps have some left at the end so they can work on some projects that they are passionate about, but are perhaps higher risk (in the sense that they may not sell well).
It certainly amazes me that these expert writers don’t look around them and figure out that by performing some market research and packaging their writing into a self-published report, book, ebook or even audio or video project, they stand to get out of the work-for-hire mode and open the door to earning leveraged income -work once, get paid forever.
I truly believe that many of these writers are quite self-conscious about their work, love writing so much that they feel a more advanced book may lead to some sort of failure.
Truth is, by packaging what they are already doing, they could be earning a fortune!!
An ebook or report that sells 24X7, 7-days each week for months on end with NO extra effort is simply an organized group of articles.
Write articles for money – sure, but spend a week or two, research a topic, organize your articles into a logical sequence for solving a problem and launch your own information product.
