So many people join us over at InfoMarketer’sZone after hitting what I call the Information Product Speed Bump!

This is the point where excitement, enthusiasm and ambition have turned into frustration, fear and anxiety over how they take their desire and idea of making profit from their own information products into reality.

For many, the infoproduct speed bump hits soon after deciding on an idea and starting to turn that idea into a product.

For others, they hit the wall when it comes to turning their product (unfinished or finished) into a business online that actually gets traffic, attention, and sales.

Product Creation + Marketing = Win!

People come at information marketing from different directions resulting in “blind spots” in their understanding of the operation of these businesses.

Some come from a background or desire of writing/product development…for them realizing they have to actually market their product is a pretty major kick in the teeth.

Another group come at this business from the perspective of selling tangible goods or operating an existing offline business, again the learning curve for marketing their information is a big one.

Yet another group come to their information business with a decent understanding of online marketing, but can’t wrap their head around how to develop and launch their own infoproducts.

You can see the dilemma…to be successful with information marketing you need to combine both product development and marketing, there are no two ways around this.

Making Your InfoProduct Business Soar

We have more than 20 information products on the market that range from $17 upward of $1000 – we have had flops and we have had very significant successes…here are some of the major points regarding how successful your own infoproduct business can be:

1. How well have you dug up an urgent desire within your marketplace – without this, you will never sell thousands of dollars in information no matter how well it is packaged.

2. How well have you positioned your solution or system for helping your prospect achieve their emotionally desired outcome?  Again – I have come across info products that are written well and have a decent grasp of the market, but they fail to position them correctly for maximum impact

3. How will you reach your market?  Affiliates are a very good way, blogging is a highly effective way to draw traffic, getting press is a very effective marketing technique as is social networking.   You need to pick 2 of these and really work them in the beginning.  I like to start with leveraging partners/affiliates and simultaneously building my blog presence to draw organic traffic and help them get to know me/my business.

4. How well do you convert?  You can get everything else right and still bomb because your sales funnel sucks…If you can’t convert 2%+ of the cold traffic into buyers then affiliates will abandon you, your organize traffic generation will suffer and paid techniques will not typically make economic sense.

5. Upsell, and increasing customer ROI.  Related to #4 is how to get more $ out of the customers you convert.  By bundling, upselling and cross-selling products you can double or triple your per-customer-ROI.  The top information marketers that lead with low-end products like books, ebooks, reports, webinars, etc…know this and have figured it out.

You may be discouraged by the amount of work required here, but don’t be!

The fact is that information marketing is still one of the most rewarding, profitable, simple and fun businesses to be in…you can leverage the week-by-week, step-by-step systems inside InfoMarketer’sZone if you think you need some help navigating the path…but don’t be put off by the process.  The reward is many times the effort you will put in.
