If we could get a completely blank book to the top sellers likst on Amazon, what would that tell us about the industry and world we live in?

  • That marketing (as it always has) is just as (if not more) important than the content of your book or training infoproduct
  • That there has never been more opportunity to market successfully online using social networking, online PR, email lists, etc…than now
  • That the publishing model has been totally turned on its head and that now anyone with an idea and ounce of marketing intelligence can become a top selling and highly regarded author/professional within their field.

No surprise to those who have followed the plan inside the Information Entrepreneur’s Success Package to create & market their own top selling ebooks, reports and infoproducts online…self-publishing and selling one’s own information products is a very achievable and lucrative goal.

But every once in a while a story like this one comes along where, in this case, Shed Simove produces a book called “What Every Man Things About Apart From Sex” with nothing but blank pages inside – a novelty product that skyrocketed to #44 best seller on Amazon and has sold thousands and thousands of copies to date.

I particularly love this quote from the article –

What’s particularly unique and marvellous about the world we live in today is that we have the internet, which both empowers us to find experts to make something happen and allows us to upload our ideas to web outlets that can instantly publicise and sell that something. That’s really rather exciting. And no-one can tell you “No!” Awesome.

The lessons from this story obviously are…

  1. Think outside of the box – know that if you have an idea for a book (with words), novelty product or otherwise you have the ability in today’s age of the internet to bring it to market and publicize it yourself
  2. To take action – though Shed started with a plan, he refined that plan as he went and sure enough, successful found him
  3. Do not underestimate the ability of the internet for finding ideas, getting word of your idea out to your market and distributing your digital or physical products…we are now in a time when anyone can bring their ideas to market and communicate with their potential customers.

Of course, I am still a bigger fan of a book with words on the page – but we can all learn the message of how powerful online marketing can really be…regardless of the product.
