I get asked all the time – how do I use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to improve my online marketing or sell more products/services and make more profit?
Spending some time on Twitter this afternoon (if you you’re not following us, find us http://www.twitter.com/highertrust/ ) – and noticed a very interesting post from Techcrunch – one of the top Tech/gadget websites on the internet fueled by its blog but also some very shrewd, focused use of social networking integrated well with their online sites.
Here is their tweet that caught my attention:
How can you NOT click on this link with the term Giveaway – and Boxee Box’s are pretty cool.
Now, where did that link take me?
To this blog page:
Basically, they are using the giveaway as incentive to do a few things..
- Go to their Facebook landing page (see below) and “Like” their page – which gives them added authority on Facebook and allows them to now communicate to 100,000+ Facebook subscribers who have liked them…every post on Facebook by Techcrunch will now show up on those subscribers’ own Wall
- Then they ask them to re-tweet the original contest Tweet – that is where they pull their winner from, which takes this entire campaign viral and widely expands the audience
- Leave a comment on the blog which builds buzz, authority and SEO back to this blog page
So, what started as a pretty standard blog contest feeds directly to a Techcrunch Facebook page and takes this campaign viral – all for the cost of a $100+ Boxee Box that they likely achieved special pricing on in the first place.
There is no way you could spend 10X this amount and reach the same audience – now that is the true power of social networking for business
By the way – here is the customized Facebook landing page you arrive at when you click on the link to “Like” Techcrunch’s FB page:
Inside InfoMarketer’sZone we share detailed instructions on how to change your standard landing page on Facebook from a post wall to a customized landing page such as this one…a great way to help attract Like’s (and thus social networking subscribers) to Facebook.
Okay, so could you apply this to your business?
Why not? Can you give away a free version of your product, an Amazon gift certificate, a 30-minute consulting spot or some other valuable gift that could draw people back to your blog where they are put through a cycle such as this to simultaneously grow your website traffic, social networking presence and following.
Give it a try.
