I was helping a top entrepreneur with their next product roll out inside Information Marketer’s Zone yesterday, this right after working with some brand new, aspiring entrepreneurs and something profound hit me that I think can really help you too.
Working with the less experienced entrepreneurs (both of who had been struggling for years to start and grow their own businesses), they often spoke of “It didn’t work last year because I hadn’t done X yet” or “If I could only make it to $X, then I’ll be fine)
On the other hand, working with experienced entrepreneur his talk was more about “as one of my next steps I want to roll out product X” and “the purpose of this next phase is __________”
Do you see the difference?
Experienced entrepreneurs view entrepreneurship as a lifestyle AND they view that lifestyle as an ongoing series of transitions rather than one specific goal or achievement.
Struggling or aspiring entrepreneurs tend to focus on one-time, one-stage goals and tend to separate their lives from their entrepreneurial pursuits.
They may look at one single business, one single product or even one single accomplishment as being the goal and in the back of their mind they expect to see a pay-off and be able to relax a little when they achieve that level.
That’s not what drives the most successful entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurial Mindset
What drives top business people and top achievers in any area of life (athletes, peak performers, artists, etc…) is…
- They view their craft and their life as one combined journey
- They understand this is a lifelong calling and that their life will be a series of transformations or chapters that will continue to allow them to lead the life journey they long for
Which is it for you?
Are your business ambitions coming from a life-long calling where you see yourself living an exciting life journey full of transitions based on building businesses, offering value and becoming a top player in your industry?
Or, do you view your business is an alternative to a job you hate, as a way to get rich, as a 1-year or 5-year exercise to get wealthy and then sit on a beach for the rest of your life?
Every top entrepreneur I have had the benefit of helping, working alongside or being helped by ALL, without exception, have fallen into that first category, where they feel that living the journey of entrepreneurship is their calling knowing full-well that they are stepping up to a life journey that is filled with endless transitions.
This excites them, it doesn’t scare them.
What about you, does this definition of entrepreneurship fit your definition?
