"Is There A Hot Selling Book Inside Of You?"

I was thinking about something humorous this last weekend.

Before creating my very first ebook, my dream was to get published, you know, your name in lights, have your own book and all that?

Have you had the same dream?

After looking into the "getting published" option more carefully though - this is what scared the crap out of me:

1. Less than 10% of all query letters ever get accepted - and when they do, that's just for your manuscript.

2. Let's say you pull off a miracle and get your proposal accepted - then you MAY get a very ** small ** up front advance to get you writing.

3. After MANY re-writes, the publisher will force you to price your book in a very fixed range - a very low amount even if your market would be willing to pay much more.

4. You sign a royalty agreement that results in between 5-8% of retail price going to you - say $1.00 on a $20 book.

5. Next, if your publisher is very successful and sucures a number of orders for your book, but because they end up in the wrong category of the bookstore or some other hot Donald Trump book hits the shelves, it doesn't move - bookstores send the books back and it come out of your advance and royalties.

Bottom line is - it is the top 2% (or less) of authors that ever make a significant profit writing traditionally published books.
